Of all the dreamers in Targaryen history, it’s difficult to argue Daenys the Dreamer wasn’t the most crucial. It was Daenys Targaryen‘s vision of the Doom that brought their House to safety on Dragonstone ahead of the extinction that took all of Valyria and every other dragonlord family. This episode is devoted to what we know of her life, the era in which she lived, and of course – her prophecies.
ASOIAF is a story set in a world where prophecy is 100% real… and 110% dangerous. But in Daenys, perhaps the most famous prophet in all the history of Westeros… we have a rare example of someone whose prophecies were listened to by the people in power AND it had a positive effect.
Most of the time it doesn’t go quite so well, IF people actually listen in the first place, and they often don’t… Beyond that… arguably it wasn’t a positive effect. Was it actually a good thing that House Targaryen survived? Maybe… without Daenys the Dreamer, the Others might be primed for a big win right now.
