TV Discussion: Game of Thrones S04E03 (spoiler free)

S04E03

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4inVCZwodn4

Another week, another episode of History of Westeros! Ashaya was unable to appear today, so Aziz and Sean break down the transitional and controversial S04E03 of Game of Thrones. The discussion revolves around power dynamics, likable characters doing unlikable things, and how initial reactions can evolve quite a bit after gaining some perspective.  As always, we illuminate the backstory and explain the subtleties, keeping you prepared for the next episode and beyond!

Sean is an Unsullied TV viewer whose unspoiled perceptions are quite the contrast to HoW’s thorough Game of Thrones education, and this makes the review unique. Sean is an insightful reviewer who first joined us in our Red Wedding discussion episode, and has been our previous two Season 4 episode: episode 1 and episode 2.

I don’t think I can kill a hundred wildlings.

The ominous they.

If you’re a famous smuggler, you’re not doing it right.

You’re the worst shit in the Seven Kingdoms.

Every scene (and there were a lot) of S04E03 is discussed, what we liked and didn’t like, noting interesting but non-spoiler comparisons to the books. As usual there is special attention paid to hidden detail and backstory.

Sean is asked to make a few predictions, while  Aziz struggles not to tell him how right or wrong he is!

TV Discussion: Game of Thrones S04E02 (spoiler free)

S04E02

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7sZpeELj8w

Instead of the usual scripted episode, History of Westeros relaxes a bit to discuss S04E02 of Game of Thrones and the nuptials of King Joffrey, known as the Purple Wedding. Ashaya even made a purple cake for the occasion!

We are joined again by Unsullied TV viewer Sean Pink, an insightful reviewer who first joined us in our Red Wedding discussion episode, and who was in last weeks’ episode 1 review. His unspoiled perceptions are quite the contrast to Ashaya and Aziz’s thorough Game of Thrones education, and this makes the review unique.

No, no, no, no. You’re perfect the way you are.

After the credits, we discuss a few spoiler topics, so stick around for that if you have read the books!

I hate a good many things, but I suffer them all the same.

The dwarf, the cripple, and the mother of madness.

Look for me beneath the tree.

S04E01

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9o6mrrPvvw

Instead of the usual scripted episode, History of Westeros relaxes a bit to discuss S04E01 of Game of Thrones…but who can relax for season 4 of Game of Thrones?! A solid start to the season with a long and exciting final scene.

We are joined by Unsullied TV viewer Sean Pink, an insightful reviewer who some may remember from our Red Wedding discussion episode. His unspoiled perceptions are quite the contrast to Ashaya and Aziz’s thorough Game of Thrones education, and this makes the review unique.

Timid bores me.

After the credits, we discuss a few spoiler topics, so stick around for that if you have read the books! This includes a short discussion on the recent spoiler chapter from The Winds of Winter, which will be at the very very end.

I’m going to have to eat every fucking chicken in this room.

Are you sure we’re not related?

Plots: The Riverlands Part 3 (spoilers)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URtUiBAllLQ

We discuss themes of aftermath, devastation and chaos at the end of the War of the Five Kings. Mostly through the eyes of Brienne and Jaime, we see topics that include the siege of Riverrun, the Quiet Isle, Harrenhal, Sandor Clegane, the Blackfish, and many others set in the Riverlands.
Too many corpses, these days.

When morning broke the snow was ankle deep, and deeper in the godswood, where drifts had piled up under the trees.

There are some technical difficulties in this episode that are edited out of the audio version. Please listen to that for a better experience, or go ahead and laugh at the video when one of us forgets to unmute our mic!
