I marathoned through all the podcasts over the week and phew...thats alot of data...But I need some more. I would like to think that I know everything there is to know about the Blackfyre rebellions but I sure would like to test that knowledge against your podcast. When you finish the War of Ice series, tickle my Blackfyre obsession a bit more would you.

On one of the previous podcasts (I do not remember which one...it could have been last year sometime) Aziz mentioned doing a podcast about a GRRM reading some time ago at a convention or some other such thing. The subject matter had something to do it a story about Aegon the Conqueror set during the time before the landing up maybe some years afterward. Is this still being considered for a podcast?

Thanks

Re: Planned Episode Topics- blood raven

Postby catothecanals » Mon Nov 10, 2014 11:58 pm

Somethings interesting I came across, and would love for you to explore while working on the Blood Raven episode.

Dark Sister is a famous Valyrian steel longsword, one of two ancestral swords of House Targaryen (the other being Blackfyre). Dark Sister was wielded by at least one woman during its history and may have been forged for a woman warrior originally as its slender blade is designed for a woman's hand. [1] The sword is last known to have been wielded by Brynden Rivers=It is unknown whether Bloodraven was allowed to take the sword with him when he was sent to the Night’s Watch. The sword's current whereabouts have as yet not been revealed.

Given where blood raven is currently located, and his current company. Wouldn't it be cool if Hodor could get it in his hands on Dark Sister and if Bran was to take control of Hodor to fight to "king" white walker?

Origin of 'Hodor'; Hodor may in fact be the name of the Great Other. Melisandre says his name must not be spoken, so few people, if anyone, would recognize the name if they heard it. Old Nan says that Hodor's name is really Walder, and that no one knows where he got 'Hodor' from. There is a fair amount of Norse Mythology (which GRRM may have been influenced by) suggesting the connection. For example; the Great Other is the god of the cold and dark, and in Norse Mythology, there is a guy named Hod/Hodur/Hoder that is the god of all things cold and dark.

Also ties back to the dunk and egg books where we find out most of what we know of blood raven and where Hodor probably decends from - Dunk.

Hodor a slow witted stableboy over seven feet tall serving at Winterfell is the great grandson of Old Nan. There is a great deal of speculation as to who is his male ancestors were.
Some of the proposed ancestor are;
 Giants were claimed by Osha because of his great size.
 Ser Duncan the Tall because of his height and because George R. R. Martin stated that his descendant would be in the book. There is also the vision of Bran's in the cave of the three-eyed crow of a knight as tall as Hodor kissing a young woman at Winterfell. The woman is thought to be Nan and the knight to be Ser Duncan the Tall, when he and Egg visited Winterfell in The She-Wolves of Winterfell.

It's funny you mention Dark Sister (and Blackfyre) as I have been working on a timeline for those two blades, to see who owned them and when.

I started a thread for it, even:

With the next book seemingly at least year off, any plans to redo the Regional histories again now the World of Ice of Fire is out?

Be nice to have complete versions in the current format with Ashaya.

Plus most of it will have already be researched?

I would love to hear an episode about the many Azor Ahai myths from across Planetos and the role, or lack of, that this hero would play in the upcoming winter. This was one of my favorite parts of the World of Ice and Fire, hearing about the alternate versions of a mythical hero wielding lightbringer. I think an episode like this could start off with the ancient myths (Nissa Nissa, Hyrkoon, the last hero, etc.), explore the similarities a bit, talk about lightbringer, and explore possible candidates (Stannis, Jon, Dany).

Also have you guys heard of the Grand Faceless Man Theory? Could be a pretty cool topic to explore too.

Thanks!
